1. What is coaching ?it is important, before you invest in a coach, that you are very clear as to what coaching is and what is isn稚. A coach is different from a mentor, a trainer or a therapist. You hire a coach to help you gain clarity and focus about what you want and desire to accomplish. A coach supports you in your effort to determine your goals, creates a structured path for achieving them, and provides accountability and motivation to ensure you reach or surpass those goals. A coach can help you figure out what you want ?what you need to do to get it ?and then helps you stay focused on the journey to achieving it.
2. Are you coachable? Coaching is a growing business because it works. However, while a coach can provide amazing insight, increased self awareness, and help you make tremendous progress, he or she can do that unless you want to be coached. You have to be sure you have the desire to change, and the commitment to do the work. It is not easy, as it requires changing habits, moving through obstacles and at times doing things that are uncomfortable. Coaching is not for everyone, and unfortunately the one thing a coach can not do for you is the actual work to help you achieve your goals!
3. Why do you want a coach? Be very clear about why you are looking to hire a coach. Is it to help you increase performance in your current position? Do you ultimately want to change careers? Perhaps you need help with work life balance? Maybe it is just to figure out what it is you do want. Coaches can help and support you in a variety of ways, and the better information you can provide them at the beginning of the relationship, the more benefit you will receive from the relationship.

Whenever I get asked what I do for a living and reply that I'm a Life Coach, I usually get either one of two responses. The first is a blank stare as though I told them I wrestle mountain goats for a living and they aren't quite sure what to say. And the other one is "I"d like to be a Life Coach, I think I'd be good at that"Even though life teaching, or at least competent Life Coaching is a highly skilled practice, it seems that a great deal of people think they would be good at it from the get-go and without any Life Coach training.
After all, how hard can it be? You listen to somebody telling you their problems and then you fix them.Unfortunately, it isn't quite that easy and Life tutors aren't paid to fix people or ram advice down clients throats. They are paid to ask the right questions at the right time in order to shift a clients thinking. After all, if cannot get his client to think differently this change is only ever going to happen by chance. And that's not the most effective way to move through life.So when somebody tells me they would like usually ask them why they think they are suited to the roll. Nine times out of ten they will reply that they are a great listener and I agree, that is a good starting point.Life Coaches do indeed need to be great listeners, but there is so much more to it than that. They also need to be great rapport builders, great question asks, great motivators, great lateral thinkers and not be afraid to ask tough challenging questions.

The Coaching business is as diverse as the coaches out there. We all bring with us the life experiences and lessons, training, education, personality and values that we have to our approach to helping others through the coaching process. This is a great thing, because like choosing a doctor, or mechanic, or friend, you can find one that speaks your language and 'gets you'. I would definitely encourage you to check out several coaches before choosing one to ensure that you find a good fit.It may be easier to ask yourself some questions to determine which type of coach would be the best place to start. This calls for a great CREATIVE Coach.Keep in mind that these are some of the most popular types of coach specialties. There are more: Success Coaches, Small Business Coaches, Women's Coaches, Family Coaches, Financial Coaches, Organizational Coaches, etc. Many LIFE Coaches have two or more areas of expertise, i.e.
Success and Financial Coaching, and as such could apply to your search in addition to ones who title themselves as "Financial Coaches", or whichever type you are searching for. When you begin your search for the right coach for you and your needs, there are some resources where you will find listings of coaches and recommendations for your questions. Try the International Coach Federation for listings of Registered, Certified Coaches.Coaches are not required to have certification, and indeed many have other types of certification: Masters and Doctoral degrees, licensing by counseling, health, financial, business associations, and so on. However, this is a great list to look at.There are other sites which keep databases of coaches, usually broken into two general groups: Business and Personal Coaches. By reading the description of individual coaches, you will find out what the areas of specialization each has to offer

As a profession, life coaching is relatively new; yet there are more and more individuals fulfilling this role in order to help people achieve personal goals. Life coaches help clients set and reach goals by drawing on a variety of disciplines from sociology and psychology to mentoring and counseling. While life coaches can be a powerful tool for achieving your own aspirations, the fact that this type of coaching was born out of so many different backgrounds means that there is a wide range of approaches and styles for different coaches. As such, choosing a life coach should not be taken lightly. You need to find a coach with a similar outlook and a basic understanding of how to use their skills to best help you. Always speak to several life coaches before you make a choice. Rapport is a very important aspect of the life coach/client relationship. If you have a fundamentally different approach to life as your coach, you may not be able to work together successfully. Many people make the mistake of believing that any life coach is well equipped to help them. In fact, building a positive relationship with your life coach is much the same as building a relationship with a friend, partner, or colleague.
Ask yourself a few questions: Does this life coach listen to you? Does s/he understand what you want to achieve through your relationship with the coach? Does your coaches values and ethics of this coach match your own?Another crucial aspect of choosing a life coach is training and experience. Because of the relative youth of the profession, there are few guidelines or requirements to become a life coach, so it is up to you to make sure that your life coach has relevant training and experience. It is acceptable to ask potential life coaches for references, and you may even be able to speak to past clients regarding that coach's techniques and level of success.

It can be hard to deal with many things in your life most especially if you feel that no one is listening or that you have too little of self-confidence to work on something. Do you know what? Maybe what you need is a life coach. Here are some signs to watch out for to know if you truly need to consult a professional life coach:You seem to be incapable of setting goals for yourself - do you feel that you are living your life everyday but not knowing where you are going? This is a common thing for people who used to take for granted their future. When you are young, it is understandable to live each day to the fullest and not thinking about tomorrow but as you grow older, you will eventually ask to yourself questions like "where will I go next", "what will happen to me next" and everything about the future.
You feel stuck and you cannot get out - there are people who shut down themselves from the world. They do not want to go out and meet new people or try new things. But for how long are you going to shut yourself out? When darkness descends on Dublin the cobbled streets of Temple Bar come to life with entertainment choices that suit all tastes and age groups. This is a lively area of Dublin and is a popular spot for hen and stag parties, tourists and Dubliners alike! There are of course other great nightlife venues outside of Temple Bar worth a visit too.
